  • Career Growth Plan – Feedback Welcome from MES/Automotive Experts

    Hi everyone,

I’m Roberto, currently working as an Application Specialist in the Automotive sector, with a focus on MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) and PMS (Plant Maintenance Systems). I’m based in Italy and have 1 year of experience in production-related IT environments.

Recently, I’ve developed a structured career growth plan aimed at evolving into roles such as Team Lead or Project Manager within my field. The plan includes both technical learning and soft skill development, and I’d truly appreciate your feedback on its feasibility, relevance, and alignment with industry expectations.

Here’s an outline of the path I’m considering:
    🎯 Career Phases
    • Short term (within a year)
      • Strengthening technical skills in SQL, Python, MES/PMS architecture
      • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification
    • Medium term (1–2 years)
      • Certifications in Project Management (PMP) and Agile (PSM I)
      • Initial leadership responsibilities (small teams/projects)
    • Long term (2+ years)
      • Transition into Project Manager / Team Lead roles
      • Gain expertise in Cloud, IoT integration and stakeholder management

📚 Courses I’m planning to follow (via Udemy and Microsoft Learn)
    • SQL Bootcamp & Python for automation
    • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
    • PMP Exam Prep (35 PDU)
    • Scrum Master certification
    • MES/PMS integration: OPC UA, MQTT/Kafka, Industry 4.0
    • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals + IoT Developer + Power Platform

🙋 What I’d love to hear from this community:
    • Are these certifications aligned with the technical and managerial demands of MES/PMS roles?
    • Would you suggest any alternatives, additions or adjustments based on your experience?
    • Has anyone walked a similar path and can share what worked or didn’t?

If there are specific forums, organizations or resources I should consider as I move forward, I’d be grateful for suggestions.

Thanks so much in advance for your time and insight!
    Roberto 👏
